Dear Beth and David,
This is the hard part of life when you have to say good bye to such a lovely person. So many former students had wonderful things they remembered about her teaching days. She is to be admired for working hard to achieve her degree .
I will always remember the wonderful garage sales we had at your house! We had a good time. Mary seemed to know everybody and always had time to visit with them. She made us (and our dog!) feel welcome at your home. In the end all that remains are the memories that people have of someone. Hang on to that. All the memories we have of your mother are positive. She will be missed. She left the world a better place for having been here. Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Mary will always be remembered as one of the nicest and kindest classmate I've had. We went through 12 years of school together, and she sure will be missed.

Your beautiful and intelligent mother was a classmate of one of my brothers. Low and behold, she was our son's, Dane Allen's, reading/English teacher. Mary was one of the chosen few to bring out the best in her students. When I retired from SBHS six years ago, she was one of two former retirees to "salute" me. I now salute her as one of the better than good human beings I have had the pleasure to know.

Mary was a wonderful woman! My heart goes out to all of you. I have many fond memories of Mary. Her classroom was just above mine at TJ Walker. Her passion for reading and knowledge about books and her enthusiasm for sharing with others was an inspiration. She made a difference in the lives of her students and all who came in contact with her. Blessings to all of you.

To the family of Mary Wanke - I extend my sympathy for your loss.
Mary and my mother (Angie Gilson) were long time friends. Besides being teachers in the Sturgeon Bay Schools together, they traveled around the country together on many occasions! Reflecting on their stories and some pictures while adventuring together makes me pause and smile.
Mary influenced so many young minds in her career. You can be proud !

I have known Mary for many years, I am a custodian at Sturgeon Bay schools. She was a wonderful person and teacher, we had many talks at school, and most recently at the nursing home while my own mother in law was their. You all have my deepest sympathy.

Mrs. Wanke was my sixth-grade English teacher. She was always so kind and would offer to help me whenever I needed it. One thing I excelled at was not handing in my homework . Never handed it in. I was capable, and she knew it.
She offered to have me make posters to decorate the room. The only part of the deal was the extra credit was only valid if I caught up on all my homework assignments.
I vividly remember working my tail off being so excited to be able to do the extra credit. Imagine my surprise 8 yrs later when I realized I did twice the work. The joke was on me. She loved all of us, and I thought of her often. My deepest condolences to your family and friends.
