William “Bill” Hovik, 90 of Sturgeon Bay, passed away on May 24, 2021. He was born Sept. 2, 1930 in Lake Forest, IL to Ole Christian and Henny (Monsen) Hovik. He later lived in Gurnee, IL, Chicago, IL, and Mt. Prospect, IL.
Bill served his country in the U.S. Air Force in Florida, Mississippi and Alaska. He married Jean Hansen in Gulfport, Mississippi in 1951. They recently celebrated 70 years of marriage. After the service, he was employed by Peoples Gas of Chicago and North Shore Gas in Waukegan. He and Jean eventually retired to Sturgeon Bay, WI.
Bill was an active member of the Hainesville Lutheran Church, Elks Club and Lions Club. He loved boating, sailing, fishing, golfing, bowling, gardening, bird watching and his beloved pets. He also found joy in fixing and repurposing things.
Bill especially loved time spent with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be fondly remembered as someone who was always willing to help anyone with whatever they needed.
Survivors include his wife Jean; 2 children, Don (Debbie) Hovik, Grayslake, IL; and Susan Schultz, Chicago, IL; 4 grandchildren: Dawn (Kevin) Conroy, Carrie (Paul) Steinke, Diane (Jason) Meske, and Stacie (Ryan) Dempski; 6 great-grandchildren: Aiden, Brinley, Neil, Ava, Logan, and William. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Private family services will be conducted with burial at Hainesville Cemetery. The Forbes Funeral Home of Sturgeon Bay assisted the family with arrangements.
