Vernon R. Meyer

Vernon Raymond Meyer, 90, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away at his daughter’s home on February 17, 2021.  He was born August 24, 1930 in Sturgeon Bay to Arthur and Minnie (Blank) Meyer. On September 17, 1949, he married Jeanette “Jan” Fairchild at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Judville, she passed away on August 20, 2014.

For 17 years, Vern worked as a crane operator for Roen Steamship Company and later owned and operated a motel in Verona, WI.  He returned to Sturgeon Bay to finish his career as a crane operator at Roen Salvage.

Vern enjoyed fishing, gardening, woodworking, and growing his fruit and nut trees.

He is survived by a daughter Cindy Meyer, Sturgeon Bay; 6 grandchildren: Steve (Michelle), Jessica (Grant), Jenny, Phil, Matt and Brandon; and 4 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by parents, wife, 2 sons, Dennis (Sue) and Randy; 2 grandsons, Nathan and Shawn; 2 brothers, Allen (Gloria) and Harvey; and a sister Mickey (Grover) Ehlers.

Private family services will be conducted at Forbes Funeral Home with burial to follow at Blossomburg Cemtery.  On line condolences may be offered at www.forbesfuneralhome.com.  Memorials may be directed to Unity Hospice.
