Sandra "Sandy" Karnitz Obituary

Sandy Karnitz, 83, formerly of Maplewood, passed away on Dec. 8, 2025, the same day that her mother passed away, eleven years earlier.  She was born in Brussels to Elmer and Esther (Lardinois) Karnitz on Sept. 20, 1942.

As the oldest of six children, Sandy helped her parents support and raise her five younger siblings, acting as a second mother to them.   After graduating from Brussels High School in 1960, Sandy immediately took a position as a secretary in the school office, working there and for Southern Door High School for 47 years.

Sandy had a variety of interests and pastimes.  She enjoyed playing Bingo, reading, social media and following all kinds of sports.  She loved watching the Brewers, Badgers, Packers, and all the local sports teams, especially if her nieces or nephews were on them.  Most of all, she treasured the relationships she had with her many nieces and nephews.  She was very active in their lives, following their many activities and life events.   Sandy was all about family.

She is survived by four siblings, Susan (Marvin) DeJardin, Sally (Mel) Vandertie, Scott (Connie) Karnitz and Sheri (Lou) Surfus; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Steve, and nephew Jeffrey DeJardin.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am Friday, Dec. 12, 2025, at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Kolberg.  Burial will be in the Forestville Town Cemetery.  Friends may call at the church on Friday from 9:00 am until the time of service.  Forbes Funeral Home is serving the family.

Special thanks to the staff at Kewaunee Health Services and to Unity Hospice for all their love, care, and support.
