Orin C. Gunnlaugsson Obituary

Orin Gunnlaugsson, 87, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away on Sept. 23, 2025.  Orin was born on Washington Island, Nov. 9, 1937. He was the fourteenth child of sixteen born to Bjorn and Clara (Hansen) Gunnlaugsson.

He sailed for Roen Steamship Co. and worked for Edward Anderson Co. in Frankland Park, IL. For the next 37 years, he worked in highway construction for Reliance Construction Co. of Sheboygan, Flanigan Pavers of Appleton, Rasmussen Construction of Oshkosh, Great Lake Construction of Suamico, and Northeast Asphalt of Green Bay.  He is a proud member of Operating Engineers Local 139.

Orin married Donna (Wagner) Bosman on July 26, 1976.  They both loved sports, ice fishing and attending music concerts throughout the states; they even went to the Grand Old Opry in Nashville Tennessee.  She preceded him in death on May 11, 1996.

Survivors include his three daughters, Lisa (Roger) Hartel and Brenda (David) Jurss, all of Arizona; Paula (Howard) Chambers of Westfield, Wisconsin; his grandchildren: Joshua (Becky) Gunnlaugsson, Kory (Laine) Kroubetz, Tiffany (Randy) Chambers, Jan (Jacob) Venechuk, Kevin Boodry and Elisabeth (Nathan) Jurss-Bialek. He is also survived by great grandchildren, Memphis, Lilah, Vronnika, Connor, Kymbreli, Emalyn, Addyson, Lakelyn, Hazley, Luna, Mira, Lincoln and Kolton; and his stepchildren, Sandy (James) Bosman, Steven (Joanne) Bosman, Susan (Allen) Kaye.  He is further survived by his brother Nathan (Karen) Gunnlaugsson of WI and Rosalie Gunnlaugsson of AZ, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law Thomas Shinnick and by his brothers and sisters and their spouses: Kenneth (June), Calvin (Lucille), Stewart (Shirley), Everette (Charlotte), Peter, Clayton, Murray (Marlene), Danny (Nancy), Arlene (Raymond) Anderson, Lorraine( Wilbert) Kinate, Blanche (Arnold) Jacobson, Angeline (Reginald) Gauger, and Pauline (Rubin) McFarlin. Also preceding him in death were his stepdaughter Vicky (Paul) Robertoy, his special friend Jeanie Daubner and his three daughters’ mother Leann Yanda. 

A  special thanks to Jerry Jacobson, Sheri Manson and Mike Frea for all their help they provided Orin throughout the years.

Funeral services will be 7:00 pm on Friday, Sept. 26, 2025, at the Forbes Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay.  Entombment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery Mausoleum.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 pm until the time of service.
