Margaret (LeRoy) Monfils Obituary

Margaret Lena (LeRoy) Monfils, 97, of Green Bay and formerly of Brussels passed away  on May 7, 2022.  She was born June 21, 1924, in Brussels to Ernest and Alice (Dachelet) LeRoy.  On January 25, 1944, she married Clarence Monfils in Namur.  He preceded her in death on November 2, 2012.

Margaret was born, raised, and lived all of her life on her great-grandfather’s homestead, which he established after immigrating from Belgium. By family and friends, Margaret was considered the oral historian of the Brussels area, providing historical information to many throughout the years.

Margaret played the organ for 50 plus years at St. Mary of the Snow Church in Namur and in her earlier years was the piano accompanist for the high school band.  Margaret enjoyed quilting, crocheting, embroidering, and playing cards.  She especially enjoyed visiting with friends and family.

Survivors include her three children, Mary Jo Adams, Lon (Barb) Monfils and Jim (Sharon) Monfils, brother-in-law Wilmer Monfils; nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother Francis “Fritz” (Elly) LeRoy; five brothers-in-law and spouses, Lawrence, Walter, Sylvester, Jerry and Marvin Monfils.

Funeral services will be at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at St. Francis and St. Mary Parish in Brussels.  Entombment will be in the Shrine of Good Shepherd Mausoleum, Green Bay.  Friends may call at the Forbes Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and then after 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church until time of services.  On-line condolences may be offered at forbesfuneralhome.com
