Obituary

Joan Kaminski (Marsh), 84, Sturgeon Bay, died on Wednesday evening, August 23rd, 2023, after a period of declining health. She was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Frank and Catherine Marsh in March of 1939, the oldest of three children.Joan graduated from Nicolet High School in Milwaukee and took a job as a telephone dispatcher for Wisconsin Bell where she met her husband, Ray Kaminski, who preceded her in death.

Joan and Ray married in 1958 and had three children. A fourth child was born shortly after they moved to Sturgeon Bay in 1964. Joan was a wonderful, loving mother and very active in her children’s lives. She volunteered as a room parent, in the school library, as a reading buddy, and served as a Brownie and Girl Scout troop leader for many years.

Joan was a Master Gardener and a longtime member of the Peninsula Planters Garden Club where she presided as President for several years. She had an encyclopedic knowledge of plants and gardening and enjoyed sharing what she knew to those who had a common interest. She used her experience to serve as a judge at the Door County Fair in the Plants and Flower Arranging divisions. She especially loved judging the 4H children who entered their plants, and she was known to be quite liberal with her blue ribbons. She was an excellent baker, cook and an avid reader.

For the past five years, Joan had been an occupant of Cardinal Ridge Residental Care, a senior assisted living facility, who provided excellent care in her twilight years.

Joan is survived by her four children: Julie (Chad) Harrison, The Villages, FL; Jenifer (Michael) Catalano, Los Angeles, CA; Joe (Ann) Kaminski, Sturgeon Bay; Jeff Kaminski, Vail, CO. She’s also survived by five grandchildren: Andrew and Alex Harrison, Katie Kaminski, and Nicolas and Mia Catalano.

A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her name to Neighbor to Neighbor Volunteer Caregivers of Door County.
