Isaac Sorenson Obituary

Isaac Terrance Sorenson, 12, of Sturgeon Bay, Wis., passed away peacefully on May 3, 2022, at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. He was born on August 12, 2009, in Green Bay to Terry and Toni (Martin) Sorenson.

Isaac entered the world rapidly and set his own course. He amazed every health professional who ever met and worked with him. Isaac enjoyed taking in the local sites with his family and nurses, painting rocks with his nurses and spreading them around Door County, visiting local parks, and getting to know the neighborhood by spending time in his parents’ strawberry stand and in their cherry orchard. Isaac also loved people reading to him, including his classmates at Southern Door, who read to him virtually during school. His team of nurses introduced him to all generational eras and genres of music and the excitement of Wheel of Fortune. He enjoyed movie nights with his family, and like a true Wisconsinite, Isaac enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers. Although he couldn’t speak or smile, Isaac communicated to his family and nurses through his expressive eyebrows and reactions to the color yellow.

While his parents had dreams of Isaac being able to smile, laugh, play and express himself in ways his earthly body didn’t allow, Isaac set his own timeline for his final journey home. He was surrounded by the love of his parents, and the embrace of God. The love in the sunshine, the light of the moon, the breeze and sounds of the birds will be a constant reminder of Isaac’s love.

Survivors include his parents; two brothers, Eli and Aksel Sorenson; maternal grandmother, Cecile Thanig (Dave Pregont), Wausau; maternal grandfather, Tom (Jackie) Martin, Edgar; step-maternal grandfather, Dan (Jan) Kamenick, Marathon; paternal grandparents Gary (Gail) Sorenson, Forestville; maternal great-grandparents Eleanora Thanig, Mosinee; Joyce (Mike) Huebsch, Edgar; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Jo Ann Simon; paternal great-grandparents, Virgil and Mae Sorenson, Alvin and Arbutus Simon and Joseph and Loraine Hendzel; maternal great-grandparents, Walter and Marie Kamenick, John and Gladys Martin and Stuart Thanig.

Visitation will be Saturday, May 7, from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Forbes Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay, Wis.
