Hans Feld Obituary

Marlin Hans Feld, 89, of Sturgeon Bay, died on March 20, 2023, at Wickenburg Community Hospital in Arizona following a series of falls.  Hans was born, the youngest of seven children, to Bernhard and Hertha Feld on the family farm near Forestville, Wisconsin October 27, 1933. Hans served in the U.S. Army as a Drill Sergeant.  He graduated from the University of Wisconsin- River Falls and married Sonja Rasmussen. Hans’s career was in the agricultural lending business – first with Production Credit Association and later at the Bank of Sturgeon Bay. Hans bought his parents’ farm, where he and Soni raised their 4 children.

Hans loved barbershop music – singing in an award-winning quartet at Algoma High School, in various choruses, and for many years as tenor in the Oak Street Boys Quartet. Hans was proud to be a Paul Harris Fellow in the Sturgeon Bay Rotary Club.  He served on the Door County Fair and Door County YMCA boards for years.

Deer hunting on his land in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan was even more important to Hans than singing barbershop music. He often said if he couldn’t get to heaven, the UP was close enough.  On his deer stand is where Hans often wrote, eventually publishing 4 books which are still for sale out of the trunk of the car for the low, low price of $14.95.

Following Soni’s death, Hans was married to Nancy Skadden Feld for almost 24 years.  In addition to Nancy, Hans is also survived by his children, Julie (Bernie Vondracek) Feld, Green Bay; Tom (Judy) Feld, Green Bay; Sara Feld, Prairie Farm, WI; and step-daughter, Jennifer (Bob) Rude, Prior Lake, MN.  He is further survived by daughter-in-law, Maxine Orth-Feld, Cleveland, WI; grandchildren, Ashtyn (Kevin Deneys) Feld, Pulaski; Kahner (Joe) Domke, Pulaski; Olivia (Eric) Romanek, Green Bay; Kendra (Alex Gygax) Feld, Lake Geneva; Luke (Paige) Kramer, Baraboo; Sam (Jessica) Kramer, Green Bay; Lucas (Crysta) Kayser, Menominee, MI; Lindsay (Jake) Sulk, Wausaukee; Robert Rude, Prior Lake, MN; Jonathan (Jash Gill) Rude, Prior Lake, MN; and 13 great-grandchildren. Hans’s sister, Glenna Gauthier, Two Rivers, and sisters-in-law, Margie Feld, Baraboo, and Mary Ann Rasmussen, Greenville, GA, also survive. Many, many nieces and nephews and their families will miss Uncle Hans.

Preceding Hans in death were his parents; brothers, Ron, Rueben, Bernie, and Edwin; sister, Gertrude Jennerjohn; his wife, Sonja Feld; and son, Rusty Feld.
