Gary Farber Obituary

Gary Farber, 75, of Ellison Bay, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2018, due to heart problems.  Gary was born Dec. 4, 1942, in Waukesha to Royal and Beatrice Farber. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marcia “Marcy” Mittelstrass Farber, his son Corbin K. Farber and his wife Jacqui of Waukesha; 7 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchilden; 2 brothers, Ralph and Ron Farber.   He was preceded in death by his parents, and son Noel Scott Farber.

Gary did many things in his life of 75 years.  He graduated from Waukesha South High School in 1960 and then served his country in the United States Airforce from 1960 to 1965.

Gary taught fourth through sixth grades at New Berlin Public Schools after receiving his BS degree from the University of Milwaukee.  He later went back and earned a master’s degree in counseling Kindergarten through twelfth grades.  During his career, Gary wrote a grant for drug and alcohol abuse and put a program together for teachers.  His last few years were spent working at New Berlin Public Schools district office.

He and his two sons learned to sail, and many trips were made to Door County.  In 1985, he started the Strictly Sail Boat Show in Waukesha.  Ten years later, it was bought by boat manufacturers and moved to Chicago.

Upon retiring from New Berlin Public Schools, Gary and his wife Marcy, moved to Ellison Bay.  Gary worked full and then part time at Yacht Works in Sister Bay for years.  He served as secretary and then secretary/treasurer for the Liberty Grove Historical Society for 14 years.  Before passing, he served on the Liberty Grove Town Board and other committees.

Gary loved sailing, reading, and the community of Ellison Bay and would often say, “Another day in Paradise”.  For those wishing to make memorials, they can be directed to heart or cancer organizations or to the Liberty Grove Historical Society.   A celebration of life will be held in the spring.
