Dorothy Twiton Obituary

Dorothy E. Twiton, 92, a long-time Door County resident, passed away peacefully at Door County Medical Center after a short illness.  She was born in Sun Prairie on Nov. 21, 1928, and grew up in Sun Prairie, the oldest child of H. Russell & Dora (Bergsland) Twiton.  She graduated from Sun Prairie High School as Salutatorian in 1945, and Augsburg College in Minneapolis in 1949.

Dorothy taught high school English in South Dakota and Minnesota until 1959.  She worked as a Director of Parish Education at Zion Lutheran Church in Oshkosh until she relocated to Sturgeon Bay, to work at Bayview Lutheran Church, where she served until 1988.  Dorothy also was the organist at Hainesville Lutheran Church from 2004 to 2014.  She continued working at a candy store and clothing store in the Door County tourist season until she was in her mid-70s.

Dorothy’s Christian faith was a very important part of her life.  She was a current member of Hainesville Lutheran Church and was active in every church she attended since childhood.  She participated in countless church functions and gave presentations at numerous services and meetings.

Dorothy didn’t like to sit still.  She loved visiting with people, going to garage sales, church events, restaurants, taking trips with relatives, visiting the family cottage, seeing new things, enjoying life.  She always had a wide-eyed sense of wonder at new experiences.  She was kind and helpful to dozens of house-bound people over many years.  She was a good listener and was always interested in others’ lives.  She was generous with her money, always remembering birthdays and supporting many faith-based causes.  She was a beloved sister, aunt and great-aunt of the Twiton & Bosben clans.

Survivors include her sister, Mary Bosben; nieces and nephews, Beth Twiton, Barb Bower, Rev. John Twiton, Joan Twiton, Bruce Bosben, Sue Huxtable and Brian Bosben; sister-in-law, Margaret Twiton; and 15 great-nieces; great-nephews, 1 great-great-niece; and devoted cousins, John and Carolyn Melland; and close special friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Rev. Robert E. Twiton.

Private family services will be conducted at Forbes Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay by the Rev. John Twiton and the Rev. Trent Zeitler.  Burial will be in Hainesville Cemetery.  Memorials may be directed to Hainesville Lutheran Church in her name.
