Dorothy was united in marriage to Robert J. Melchior of Algoma on June 27, 1951, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Maplewood. Dorothy and Bob lived in Surgeon Bay and were members of Corpus Christi Parish.  They were blessed with 67 years of marriage. Bob preceded her in death March 31, 2018.

Dorothy was a member of the St. Ann's Society, a volunteer with the Red Cross blood bank and a Neighbor To Neighbor adult daycare volunteer.  She was very social and enjoyed meeting new people.  Travelling frequently with her daughters, she especially enjoyed going on cruises.  She loved being a mother and grandmother and cherished the time spent with her granddaughters Meghan and Katie.  Dot loved Christmas and baking cookies, and quick breads were her specialty.

Her love will live on in the hearts of her daughters, Mary (Scott Fruechtl) of Washington Island and Patricia (Kevin)Quinn of Sturgeon Bay; granddaughters, Meghan Quinn and Katie (Nathan Jensen) Quinn, and great grandsons, Callan and Lachlan Jensen.  She was preceded in death by her husband Bob, parents Elsie and Modest and siblings, Owen (Loretta), Veronica (Russ) Russell, Laverne (Milton) Eggert, Norman (Theresa) and Robert (Frances).

Her life will be honored by a mass of Christian burial at 11:00 am on Friday, Oct. 10, 2025, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Maplewood with Reverend William Brunner as celebrant.  Visitation will be at the church from 10:00 am until the time of service.  Dorothy will be laid to rest in the St. Mary's Maplewood Catholic Church cemetery beside her husband Bob.

The family would like to thank the Pete and Jelaine Horton staff for their care and kindness shown to Dorothy and also Unity Hospice for their thoughtfulness.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Pete and Jelaine Horton Skilled Nursing Center.
