Dolores Jean Owen

Dolores Jean Owen (née Cannon), age 93, passed away Saturday, October 29, 2022 at Masonic Pathways Assisted Living Facility in Alma, Michigan. She was born in Chicago, Illinois, on November 6, 1928 to Hugh and Gladys (née Galbreath) Cannon. She married James Russell Owen on August 27, 1948, in South Bend, Indiana. He preceded her in death on Monday, August 26, 2002, in Mesa, Arizona, one day short of their 53rd wedding anniversary.

She was a strong, courageous, and determined woman with a desire to see the world. Her father was a carpenter and relocated the family to a variety of midwestern communities, wherever work was available. During her married life, her husband Jim’s career continued the tradition of relocating the family to even more midwestern communities. Family summers were spent doing more traveling by camping throughout the United States, visiting national parks and stopping at historical landmarks. Their final adventure took them from a single-family home in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to a fifth-wheel trailer, which they used to see even more of the country they loved.

Her love of travel and adventures lives on in her three children: William (Mindy) Owen, Groveland, Florida; Paula (Joel) Eggert, Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin; and Susan (Wendy Dawson) Owen, Murphy, Texas, (soon to be Wisconsin). She is also survived by her four grandchildren: Russ TC Owen (Kansas City, MO), Maggie Eggert (San Francisco, CA), Rachel (Ben) Eggert-Witmer (Mt. Pleasant, WI) and Tim (Erin) Eggert (Mequon, WI).

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, parents Hugh and Gladys Cannon, and in-laws Russell and Hazel Owen.

Graveside services will be held at Bayside Cemetery on Friday, November 11th, 2022 at 1:30 pm with Pastor Gary Sharrig officiating. Forbes Funeral Home, Sturgeon Bay and Lux-Moody-Wolfel Funeral Homes, Alma, Michigan,  have been assisting the family.

Memorial donations in the name of Dolores Owen can be directed towards the Alzheimer’s Association, the American Heart Association or the Masonic Assistance of Masonic Pathways.

The family wants to acknowledge the wonderful staff of the Masonic home where mother had lived since 2007. We thank them for their kindness and compassion over the past 15 years.
