Brennan M. Kasten, 34, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away Saturday afternoon, May 30, 2026 at the Pete and Jelaine Horton Center Skilled Nursing Facility with his family by his side, following a long, courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on June 24, 1991 in Sturgeon Bay, son of Brian Kasten and Brenda (Gunderson) Schmidt. Brennan attended schools in Sturgeon Bay and Southern Door. He was employed as a saw blade sharpener with Menominee Saw & Supply Co in Menominee, MI prior to his illness. Brennan was an avid online gamer as well as an avid player of dungeons and dragons.
He is survived by his father: Brian Kasten; his mother and step-father: Brenda and Lenny Schmidt; one brother: Dustin Kasten; step-brothers and step-sisters: Ericka (Jon) Lewis, Nicholas (Kelsey) Schmidt, McKenzie (Graham) Dumke, Jared Schmidt, Logan Rodriguez; maternal grandparents: Leonard and Norine (Vandertie) Gunderson; many aunts and uncles, several cousins, other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents: Elton and Blanche (Schleis) Kasten, and many aunts and uncles.
Visitation for Brennan will be held at Forbes Funeral Home, 319 W Spruce Street, Sturgeon Bay on Friday, June 12, 2026 from 1:00 PM until the time of services at 4:00 PM. Burial will follow at Bayside Cemetery, Sturgeon Bay. Expressions of sympathy, memories and photos may be shared with the family on Brennan’s tribute page at www.forbesfuneralhome.com.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors, nurses and support staffs of Froedtert Hospital, Milwaukee, Bellin Health, Green Bay, Door County Medical Center, the Pete and Jelaine Horton Center and Unity Hospice for their compassionate care given to Brennan and his family during his illness.
