Beverly G. Kramer

Beverly Kramer, 93, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2021 at the Door County Skilled Nursing Facility in Sturgeon Bay, WI, where she lived the final years of her life, and was beloved by staff and other patients. She passed with her loving children at her side.

Bev was born in St. Paul, MN to loving parents Hildegard and Russell Thompson.  She and her older brother, Frank, grew up in St. Paul.  After graduating from the University of Minnesota, Bev set out to have adventures – and so she did! She traveled Europe with three friends, lived briefly in San Francisco, and finally moved to Chicago, IL where she worked for the National Safety Council, and met her husband, J. Harold (Hal) Kramer.  After a whirlwind courtship, Bev and Hal were married on May 3, 1958, and immediately started a family.  Son, Douglas Christopher, was born in 1959 and daughter, Sue Ann, was born in 1963.

In 1968, the young family moved to the Chicago suburb of Highland Park.  Bev was a stay-at-home mom, and was active in her kids’ schools and her church, Deerfield Presbyterian.  A dedicated and loving wife and mother, Bev loved to cook delicious dinners, and bake cookies and cakes for her family.  When Doug went to college, Bev went back to work full-time to help with expenses, and ended up working at Highland Park Hospital for 8 years in public relations. 

After raising their children in Highland Park, Bev and Hal moved to Lake Bluff, IL, where they would celebrate the weddings of both Doug and Sue Ann in 1991.  In a few years, Bev and Hal were thrilled with the birth of their first grandchild, Grant Joseph Kramer, soon followed by Kyle James Hubbard, Madelyn Claire Kramer, Grace Katherine Hubbard and Charles Stephen Hubbard.  Bev loved nothing more than to spend time with her children and grandchildren, and was always proud and happy to attend sporting events, concerts, birthday parties and holiday celebrations.

After the death of her husband Hal in 2013, Bev moved up north to Sturgeon Bay, WI to be closer to Sue Ann and her family.  Living in assisted living and finally a local nursing home, Bev made friends with staff and other residents.  She loved to tell stories, was an avid reader, knitted lots of scarves for friends and family, and watched Judge Judy whenever possible.  Bev read the Wall Street Journal every day, and loved to talk about current events and recipes with all visitors.  She played a wicked game of Kings Corners, Sequence, Scrabble, and often swept the prizes at Bingo.  Bev loved visitors, especially family members, and was thrilled when her nieces, Emily Thompson Haddad, Bonnie Thompson Gentil and nephew Mark Thompson would come to visit her from Minnesota. When the COVID pandemic hit, Bev weathered the isolation bravely and with good humor. Always ready with a smile and a kind word, Bev will be missed deeply by all of us lucky enough to have known and loved her.

She is survived by her two children Sue Ann Hubbard and Douglas (Mary) Kramer, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many friends.

A private service will be held at a later date this summer at Sunset Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN. Forbes Funeral Home of Sturgeon Bay is assisting the family with arrangements.  Contributions may be made in her name to the charity of your choice.
