Adeline Zak Obituary

Adeline (Haberli) Zak, 92, of Sturgeon Bay was given the best Christmas gift ever on December 23, 2022 of everlasting joy, the gift of grace through her Savior Jesus Christ.  She was born in Egg Harbor to Joseph and Ida (Stern) Haberli on June 12, 1930.

Adeline graduated from Gibraltar High School and continued her education at Door County Normal School to become a teacher.  Adeline taught two years in Juddville, grades 1 through 8.  On June 30, 1951, she married the love of her life, Harry A. Zak and they enjoyed the ups and downs of their union for 71 years.  Together they created four wonderful children whom they devoted their love to unconditionally.

After raising their children, Adeline took a position at Sevastopol School teaching 4th grade.  She later taught in the Junior High School, retiring in 1993.  While teaching, she continued her own education, earning a BS in education at UW-Oshkosh.   Adeline and Harry also operated a cherry and apple orchard for several years.  In retirement, she enjoyed extensive travel with her husband and family, creating wonderful memories.

Adeline’s greatest passion in life was her faith in Jesus.  She was a long time and active member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay where she served on the New Member Team, the Altar Guild, Ladies Aid and the Outreach Committee.   Adeline wanted everyone to know Jesus.

Survivors include four children, Kay (Stuart) Krause, Oshkosh; Stuart (Paula) Zak, Thiensville; Susan (Tom) Maennpa, Cold Springs, KY; Karrie (Dave) Anthony, Sturgeon Bay; thirteen grandchildren, Matthew (Apryl) Krause, Jill Hastings, Ben (Jana) Zak, Joel (Michele) Zak, Daniel (Carrie) Zak, Laura (Dan) Bert, Phillip (Ashleigh) Maenpaa, Rachel Maenpaa, Beth (Logan) Jaehnen, Erik (Erin) Anthony, Jonathon (Amanda) Anthony, Jordan (Melissa) Anthony and sixteen  great-grandchildren with another to arrive soon.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson Isaiah Anthony;  seven siblings, Milton Haberli, Gertrude (Max) Naumann, Verna (William) Herbst, Laura (Elmer) Naumann, Louella Haberli, Viola (Ernest) Dill and Norbert (Genevieve) Haberli; and sisters-in-law, Darlene and Donna Zak.
