Welcome to the memorial page for

Marilyn Peterson

July 15, 1947 ~ February 25, 2017 (age 69) 69 Years Old

Marilyn Jean Peterson passed away on February 25, 2017.  She was born in Sturgeon Bay on July 15, 1947, to Cedric and Florence (Smith) Tipler.  She grew up on the shore of Lake Michigan in Whitefish Bay, Door County with her sisters Janet and Karen.  A graduate of Sevastopol High School, Marilyn was an accomplished majorette and baton twirler during her Sevastopol Pioneer days.

On July 10, 1965 she married Alfred Peterson at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Valmy.  Together they raised two children, Shawn and Trina in Sturgeon Bay.  Marilyn loved children and led kids’ afterschool programs for 17 years.

Retirement allowed Marilyn and Al to return to living at the lake.  She loved walks on the beach, golf with friends, silly board games, black Labradors (especially Lola) and time with her beloved granddaughters.

Survivors include her husband, Al; children, Shawn (Karen) Peterson of West Jacksonport; and Trina Peterson of San Luis Obispo, CA; grandchildren, Sara (Robert) Harley, Paige Anderson, and Anika Peterson; sisters, Janet Myer and Karen (Paul) Jensen, and “like-a-sister”, Barb Myer; two nephews, Eric and Anders Jensen, all of Green Bay.

The family will be having a private memorial service.  A public celebration of her life for friends and family will be held this summer at Whitefish Bay.  In keeping with her love of children and animals, memorials may be made to Boys and Girls Club of Door County or the Door County Humane Society. Forbes Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
