Mae Sorenson, 90, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away at home on Dec. 7, 2017, surrounded by her family. She was born on May 13, 1927 in the Town of Forestville to Norman and Gertrude (Jensen) Christenson. Shortly after she was born, her mother passed away and Mae was raised by her Aunt Ida Haganes and her family.
Mae graduated from Algoma High School in 1945. On Aug. 31, 1946, she married Virgil Sorenson at Tanum Church. Mae and Virgil farmed in the Town of Clay Banks for many years. He preceded her in death on April 19, 2006.
Mae was a life time and active member of Tanum-Forest Lutheran Church where she was a pioneer member of the Ladies Aid. She enjoyed traveling with her family and Cousin Audrey across the country to Florida, Branson, and both the east and west coasts. She was a wonderful hostess who warmly welcomed everyone into her home for food and conversation.
She is survived by 6 children: Dianne (Jim) DeMeuse, Luxemburg; Richard Sorenson, Palm Coast, FL; Dennis (Maureen) Sorenson, Green Bay; Gary (Gail) Sorenson, Forestville; Joanne (Troy) Hicks, Vignes; and Mark Sorenson, Sturgeon Bay; 15 grandchildren: Debra (Curt), Daun (Jeff), Amy (Travis), Paul (Brittany), David, Dana (Keith), Hollie (Special friend, Jim), Susan, Andrea (Paul), Terry (Toni), Heather (Ross), Joe, Ryan, Nathan, and Kristy (Special friend, Justin); 23 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; step-mother, Bertha; husband; brother, Robert; daughter-in-law, Sandy; and many cousins and in-laws.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2017 at Tanum-Forest Lutheran Church with Rev. Peter Mannoja officiating. Burial will be in Tanum Cemetery. Friends may call at the Forbes Funeral Home on Monday from 4-7 pm and at the church on Tuesday from 10 am until the time of service.
