Carole Karas Obituary

Carole A. Karas, 80, of Sturgeon Bay passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, April 21, 2018.  She was born September 1, 1937, to Louis and Jennie Tassoul in Algoma.  Carole married Wayne Karas on November 15, 1958, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Algoma.  He was the love of her life.  He passed away at the age of 55 on January 1, 1990.  They had two children, Debbie and David.

Carole loved to dance and was part of the Happy Hopper’s Dance Club.  She danced every chance she got and even followed one of the local bands when they went out of state to play.  She also loved to volunteer and spent many years helping at Feed & Clothe My People in Sturgeon Bay.  Most recently, her volunteer efforts were spent with Neighbor to Neighbor Volunteer Caregivers and the Green Door Resale Shop.  Her talent for remembering people and dates was astonishing.  Carole was also a long-time member of the Holy Name of Mary Parish in Maplewood and the Altar Society.

Carole is survived by her children Debbie (Brian) Rankin and David Karas, both of Algoma.  She had six grandchildren, Jeremy (Ashley) Rankin, Stevens Point; Jennifer, Nicholas (Betsy) Rankin and Melissa (Fiancé Marcus) Rankin, all of Green Bay; Michelle (Ken) Kiernan and Phillip Karas, Algoma; three great grandchildren, Max and Alma Rankin, Stevens Point and Bentley Rankin, Green Bay.  Another great grandchild is expected in June and she was really looking forward to meeting that new addition to the family.  She is also survived by sisters, Judy (Arlen) Wery and Linda (Wally) Karnopp, along with brothers, Ron (Sandy) Tassoul and Terry (Sharon) Tassoul, and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Wayne, her parents, her brother Alvin, sister Janet Dequaine, sisters-in-law, Rosie Tassoul, Patricia Caniglia, Kathleen Bergsland, Carol Karas and Bernice Karas, along with brothers-in-law, Marvin Dequaine, Kenneth Karas, William Karas, Sebastian Caniglia and George Bergsland.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at Holy Name of Mary Church in Maplewood.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Forbes Funeral Home and then after 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the church until time of services.  On-line condolences may be offered at forbesfuneralhome.com
