Richard Henry George Lindemeyer

Richard Henry George Lindemeyer, 97, Sturgeon Bay passed away at Whispering Heights on March 26, 2016.  He was born November 13, 1918, in Charlottesville, VA and was the first born son of the late Rev. Otto W. H. and Helen C. (Scott) Lindemeyer.                                                 

He graduated from the High School Department of Concordia College, Conover N.C. and later U. S. Merchant Marine Academy, Long Island, N.Y.  He spent almost all of World War II as an engineering officer aboard tankers and troop ships in the Atlantic, Mediterranean and Pacific theaters and received a USNR Honorable Discharge.  He was a marine engineer/shipbuilder having worked most of his life for the Bethlehem Steel Corporation- Marine Division.  He retired in July 1983, as Manager of New Construction.  He continued working as a self-employed marine consultant until 1998.

Richard was married to Ami Miyamoto of Kobe, Japan.  They came to Sturgeon Bay in 1976, where he was in charge of a Bethlehem/Bay Shipbuilding ship building program at the time. He was a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay.

Survivors include his wife, Ami; a daughter, Mira Miyamoto; a brother Walter (Kay) Lindemeyer, Greensboro, N.C; one sister, Marian Mueller, St. Louis, MO; two nephews, Michael and Richard; and two nieces, Linda Mueller and Nancy Lindemeyer.  He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert and his wife, Alice; Arthur and his wife Ruth; one sister, Lois and her husband Tom.

Memorial and Veteran Services will be 1:30 p.m., Friday, April 1, 2016, at the Forbes Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay with Rev. Darrick Kolterjahn officiating.  Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Peters Lutheran Church in his memory.
