Mercedes “Marcy” Birmingham, 91, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away on August 19, 2015, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Green Bay. She was born on March 2, 1924, to Joseph and Alice (Huebner) Fischer. On June 18, 1943, she married Donald R. Birmingham, he preceded her in death on September 5, 1993.
Marcy worked in Sturgeon Bay as office manager for Plecks Dairy for 15 years. Later, she was the first office worker at the newly constructed electric company built by the Doerr Brothers in 1965. Marcy was employed by Doerr Electric for 20 years, having worked as book keeper, office manager, and administrative assistant.
She was an avid bowler and served as secretary/treasurer of the Door County Women’s Bowling Association for 7 years. Marcy also operated the Yarn Corner in her daughter Pat’s shop, “The Olde Church Shoppe”.
Survivors include 3 children: Patricia (James) Olson, Sturgeon Bay; Nancy (Eric) Normann, Sturgeon Bay; Peter (Pam) Birmingham, Menomonie, WI; daughter-in-law Candice Birmingham, Sturgeon Bay; 11 grandchildren: Cindy (Paul) Weber, Eric (Michelle) Olson, Eric Tonning Norman, Matt (Myria) Normann, Holly (Steve) Lehmann, Cathy (Mark) Aune, Kristin (James) Johnson, Cheryl (Boyd) Anderson, Christine (Joel) Hall, Donald Birmingham Jr., Clayt (Therese) Birmingham; 27 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren; brother Joseph (Judy) Fischer and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Donald “Spike”, 2 brothers, Ervin and Ivan Fischer, and a sister Dolores Smith.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 24, 2015, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church with Rev. Carl Schmitt and Rev. Anthony Birdsall officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4-7:00 p.m. at the Forbes Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay. A rosary will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. There will be no visitation before the services on Monday.
