Mary Wanke, 76, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away at Bellin Hospital on Oct. 31, 2015.  She was born on Jan. 12, 1939 in Door County to John and Henrietta (Steinke) Schopf.  On April 26, 1958, she married William “Bill” Wanke in Sturgeon Bay.  He preceded her in death on May 6, 2009.

Mary earned her teaching degrees at the University of Wisconsin Green Bay and taught sixth grade at the Sturgeon Bay Middle School for many years.

She was active in Altrusa, the St. Bay Business Women’s Assoc., the Ladies Circle at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, and the Red Hatters.  She also did volunteer work for DoorCAN Inc.

Survivors include two children, David (Cathy) Wanke, Sturgeon Bay, Beth (Mark) Priest, Greenville, WI; four grandchildren, Zachary Wanke, Kevin, Jason, and Ann Priest; 3 sisters-in-law and 1 brother-in-law, Betty Schopf, Sally Schopf and Suzanne (George) Doom; nieces, nephews and many friends.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Nov.  5, 2015 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. Darrick Kolterjahn officiating.  Entombment will be in the St. Joseph Mausoleum.  Friends may call at the Forbes Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.  and at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.   Devotions will be conducted at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
