Helen M. Cibik-Junkans

September 28, 1916 ~ March 28, 2017 (age 100) 100 Years Old

Helen Marie Cibik-Junkans of Sturgeon Bay, formally Fond du Lac and Cedarburg, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2017, after being cared for by her children at Anna’s HealthCare while in the care of Hospice. Helen was 100 years of age. She was born September 28, 1916, in Baraboo, Wisconsin to Edwin and Lillian Effinger Mead. Helen had many talents; was Miss Baraboo 1934 and worked in Madison where she met her future husband, Vincent B. Cibik, they were married in August 17, 1940, he preceded her in death in 1954.

Helen met then married Oscar Junkans of Cedarburg on November 3, 1956, and moved to Fond du Lac. Oscar was a WWII veteran and spent his working career at the US Postal Service in Fond du Lac as a clerk. Oscar passed on April 28, 1994.

Helen worked several jobs while raising seven children. She enjoyed spending time with children, card playing with friends, sewing “cathedral mice”, reading and spending time at their cabin on Gull Lake, near Hayward Wisconsin.

Survivors include seven children: Caesar Cibik, of Cedarburg, WI; John Cibik (Connie) of Mequon; Lee Junkans (Kathy) of Chicago; Vincent Patrick Cibik (Connie) of Fond du Lac; Cassie Cibik Moeller (David), Sturgeon Bay; Tom Junkans (Heidi), Hayward; and Heidi Caren (Robert) of Woodstock, VT; and fourteen grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband’s Vincent and  Oscar, her parents, her three sisters; Audrey Mead Walsh of Mauston, WI; Eleanor Shelton of Mauston; and Martha M. Gambrill of Fairfield, CA; four brothers; John “Jack” Mead of Ellison Bay; Gordon Mead of Dalton, WI; Thomas Mead of Santa Barbara, CA; and Bob Mead of California.

A memorial service will be held in Door County in the fall to celebrate Helen’s life.

The family extends their deepest appreciation to Dr. Arnold, Unity Hospice and the compassionate staff at Anna’s Health Care in Sturgeon Bay.
