Dr. William R. Austad, M.D., 79, of La Cruces, N.M., passed away on Friday, June 30, 2017.  He was born in Sturgeon Bay, on October 9, 1937, to Russell and Lucille (Hembel) Austad.  Bill graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1955, and completed medical school at UW Madison in 1962.  He married Eleanor Plambeck in Sturgeon Bay in 1960.  Bill served in the U.S. Army and obtained the rank of major.  He practiced medicine in Monroe, WI for 20 years, and then in Las Cruces, N.M. until his retirement 14 years ago.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Eleanor; brother, Dan (Jean) Austad, Sturgeon Bay; sister-in-law, Susan Austad, Sturgeon Bay; and nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Tom Austad.

To honor Bill’s wishes, there will be no services.
