April 30, 1917 ~ November 30, 2015 (age 98) 98 Years Old

Dora Marie Schmidt, 98, of Sturgeon Bay, wife of Frank J. Schmidt, passed away on November 30, 2015.  She was born April 30, 1917, in Little Sturgeon to William and Louise (Tassoul) Roberts.  On June 14, 1939, she married Frank J. Schmidt at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, who preceded her in death on January 17, 2005.

Frank and Dora farmed in the town of Nasewaupee on Herman Schmidt’s farm with their sons Bob and Tom.  Frank worked at the Sturgeon Bay Shipbuilding and Dry Dock where he started as a pipefitter and finished as chief engineer. Dora worked for Harry Dufek’s Shoe Store and later for Paul Kay after he acquired the store.  Dora also worked at the Sturgeon Bay Visitor Center.

Dora was a member of the St. Ann Society and educated Bob and Tom at Corpus Christi School.  During their retirement, Frank and Dora spent 17 winters in Hawaii visiting their son Tom and his family.

Dora was a great hostess and loved to entertain.  The Schmidt home was always open to any friend or relative who needed no appointment to visit and they could never leave without a scrumptious seven course lunch or nine course dinner.  The farm was the center of the family.

Survivors include her son Thomas (Brigida) Schmidt, Honolulu, HI; Thomas’ first wife, Jhincil Schmidt, Honolulu, HI; daughter-in-law, Mary Schmidt, Sturgeon Bay; six grandchildren, Shelly (John) Wilz, Sturgeon Bay; Robyn (Paul) Bscherer, Sturgeon Bay; Mark (Anne) Schmidt, Waupaca; Ann (Donn) Clermont, Green Bay; Damon (Kristi) Schmidt, Honolulu, HI; Davin Schmidt, Honolulu, HI; sixteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
