Welcome to the memorial page for

Carl A. Muhr

May 7, 1951 ~ November 24, 2016 (age 65) 65 Years Old

Carl Andrew Muhr, 65, Sturgeon Bay, passed away surrounded by family on Thursday, November 24, 2016.  Carl was born on May 7, 1951 in Chicago, Illinois on the northwest side to John Richard and Kathe (Ledtje) Muhr.  He had many stories of growing up with three brothers John, Mark, and Paul, swimming at the YMCA, buying penny candy at Elsie's corner store, taking art classes at the Art Institute, designing and redesigning their electric train boards, and spending summers camping in Lake Geneva.

He attended trade school to become a Tool and Die Maker. This career moved his family to Sturgeon Bay in 1978. He was very proud of the precision work he did to create medical devices helping so many. He loved the small town life as a place to raise his two daughters, Pam and Karen. They enjoyed their attempts to raise a pet rabbit and several pet ducks, working on projects together fixing up other people's spring clean-up offerings into new treasurers, playing the drums, and summer camping trips with extended family.  He moved his family in 1988 to Bay Shore Drive, creating his dream home and spending countless hours enjoying his yard.

Carl added a son to the family in 1991 when daughter Pam married Steve Robillard. Soon he had some new little buddies in Sturgeon Bay, grandchildren Jacqueline and Stevie, to hike with in his woods (even making a "haunted" trail once to give them a Halloween trick), and help with projects, even adding blocks on the riding lawnmower so his grandson could proudly mow the lawn and allowing his granddaughter to practice her hair cutting on him.

Carl married Nancy Ann Kohlbeck on June 19, 1998, adding two grown daughters, Tracy and Tammy, to the family and becoming a grandpa to Tyler, Tiffany, Kayla, Dani, Kenzie, and Austin.  They shared their love of the outdoors with each other, opening their property to extended family camping weekends, complimenting Nancy's amazing gardens with Carl's yard decorations.

Carl added yet another son to the family in 2001 when daughter Karen married Mark Kill in St. Paul, MN. He enjoyed regular visits and weekly phone calls, staying close with grandchildren Ellie, Alex, and Olivia, teaching them the fun of homemade race car tracks, knocking down dominoes, and towing them in a trailer pulled by the riding lawn mower!

Carl was a member of the American Legion and Moose Lodge in Chicago and the Elks Club in Sturgeon Bay.  He will be remembered for his open talkative ways (including his eagerness to tell all his secrets like what was wrapped in your gift before you opened it!), always learning something new to share, and for how much he enjoyed his family and home.

Carl is survived by his wife Nancy, and their children Pam (Steve) Robillard of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, Karen (Mark) Kill of Bayport, MN, Tracy (Steven) Zingler of Green Bay, Wisconsin, and Tammy (James) Pellizzaro of Denmark, Wisconsin. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, Jacqueline, Stevie, Ellie, Alex, Olivia, Tyler, Tiffany, Kayla, Dani, Kenzie, and Austin, as well as three great-grandchildren Lily, Leo, and Adrian.  He is further survived by brothers John Muhr (and his three daughters Katie, Leslie and Becca), Mark Muhr, and Paul (Linda) Muhr all of Chicago, Illinois. He is further survived by mother-in-law Jackie Kohlbeck. He was preceded in death by his parents, Uncle Heinz, and father-in-law Rube Kohlbeck.
