Allan Lamer

June 22, 1936 ~ September 19, 2017 (age 81) 81 Years Old

Allan John Lamer, 81, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away suddenly on September 19, 2017, in Appleton at ThedaCare Medical Regional Center.  He was born June 22, 1936, in Tomahawk, Wisconsin to Joseph and Estelle (Bauer) Lamer.

After high school, Al attended Milwaukee School of Engineering where he studied manufacturing engineering.  He married his high school sweetheart, Wilma “Billie” Nick on September 14, 1957.  They just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. 

After living in Milwaukee, Wausau, and Eden Prairie, Al and Billie moved to Sturgeon Bay to own and operate Marine Travelift.  Al and his brother Jerry ran the business until 2003, growing it into the largest boat hoist company in the world.   Al enjoyed travelling around the world for both business and pleasure.

During his life he enjoyed involvement in the Knights of Columbus, N.R.A., Door County Fish, Farm, and Game Club and the DNR Hunters Safety Program for over 50 years.  Al loved hunting, fishing, boating, gardening, and especially spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, 6 children, Christine (Alvin) Gelschus, Eden Prairie, MN; Joseph (Sheryl) Lamer, Milton, WI; Julie (Craig Potter) DuBois, Oregon, WI; Nick Lamer, Los Angeles, CA; John (Terri) Lamer, Sturgeon Bay; Chad (Heather) Lamer, Kimberly; thirteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, two brothers, Jerry (Pat) Lamer, Sturgeon Bay; Fran (Kathy) Lamer, Wausau; one sister Donna Magnuson, Tomahawk; in-laws, Cindy and Charlie Jarvis and Jane Lamer; and special cousin Lonn Lamer.  He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, two brothers, Gene and Vern; two sisters, Marge and Rita (Harlan); sisters-in-law, Mike, Mary, Pat, and Joan.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 25, 2017, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Sturgeon Bay with Rev. Anthony Birdsall officiating.  Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the Forbes Funeral Home and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church on Monday.  Private burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Tomahawk, WI.
