History

 
The Forbes Funeral Home was established in 1982 by Harold R. Forbes.  Founded as Sloan Funeral Service at the beginning of the twentieth century, the business operated as the Stoneman Funeral Home on Madison Ave. in
Sturgeon Bay from 1925 to 1970.  From 1970 to 1981 the business was owned by Soulek Funeral Homes and managed by Harold Forbes.  In 1970, Soulek built the current facility, located on Green Bay Rd.  After working for Stoneman and Soulek, Forbes assumed ownership in 1982 and continues as senior partner of Forbes Funeral Home, LLC.

Harold R. Forbes has been a licensed funeral director for over 40 years and serving the families in Door County for almost as long.  After attending Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, Harold graduated from Mortuary School in Milwaukee.  After working for a few years at Stoneman Funeral Home, in Sturgeon Bay and Uecker-Witt Funeral Home in Fond du Lac, Harold returned to Sturgeon Bay in 1970 to manage the Soulek Funeral Home.  In 1982 Harold bought out Soulek and established the Forbes Funeral Home.  He continues to arrange and direct funerals as senior partner of the firm.

 


Mark S. Forbes joined the family firm as a licensed funeral director in 1992.  Mark grew up in Sturgeon Bay and graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1983.  He earned a bachleor’s degree in psychology from Trinity University (Deerfield, IL) in 1987 and received his funeral service certificate from Worsham College in 1992.  Mark also earned an accounting degree from Lakeland College in 2002.  As junior partner, Mark arranges and directs funerals and acts as business manager for the firm.
