Janis C. Hitt

Janis C. Hitt, 88, formally of Sturgeon Bay, passed away on July 14, 2012, in Manitowoc at the River’s Bend Nursing Facility. She was born on June 7, 1924, in Milwaukee to Louis and Mabel (Peronto) Suess. Janis graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School and then went to work for Perfex in Milwaukee during WWII and then for Sturgeon Bay Shipbuilding and Dry Dock. She then worked at Baudhuin Yacht Harbor/Marine Travel Lift until she retired. On October 18, 1947, she married Ernest Hitt, who preceded her in death on Dec. 25, 1996. After Ernest’s passing, she lived in Davie, FL for 12 years with her son and then returned to Manitowoc in 2008.

Survivors include one son, Michael (Delores) Hitt, Mishicot; three grandchildren, Jonathan (Erinn Finlan) Hitt, Mequon; Sarah Hitt, Chicago; Nicholas (Kelly) Eckers, Brisbane, Australia; two great-grandchildren, Ava and Jack; brother-in-law, Marvin Boes, East Lansing, MI; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters, Della Olson and Kathleen Boes.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday July 23, 2012, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church with Rev. Anthony Birdsall and Rev. Carl Schmitt officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services on Monday at the church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for River’s Bend Nursing Facility.
