Viola Anna (Ahlswede) Kuzma, 86, Colorado Springs, Co and formerly of rural Sturgeon Bay passed away at her home in Colorado Springs on September 28, 2009. Viola was born on January 9, 1923 in Gardner Township, Wisconsin, the daughter of Emil and Martha (Keller) Ahlswede. She married Joseph Kuzma on June 26, 1948 in Evanston, IL. He preceded her in death on February 21, 2001.Viola and her siblings attended Stevenson Pier School and were confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church, in Nasewaupee. She met Joseph in Illinois where they raised their family. Viola and Joseph retired to Nasewaupee in 1979.Viola considered it a privilege in caring for Salem Lutheran’s flowers for decades. She moved to Colorado Springs in 2007 to be closer to her children and grandchildren where she continued gardening and attending dances at the Senior Center. Survivors include her two children, Thomas (Olha) Kuzma and Karen Hays, Colorado Springs; and six grandchildren, Joseph Kuzma, Warwick, England; Jennifer Hays, Golden, Colorado; Joshua Hays, Veselka Kuzma, Aleksa Kuzma and Oksana Kuzma, all of Colorado Springs; a brother and sister, Marvin (Becky) Ahlswede and Pearl (Don) Sixel, Sturgeon Bay. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Harold Ahlswede, Leona Burr, Aurella Vogel, Eva Struck and EltonAhlswede. Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 2, 2009 at Salem Lutheran Church, the Rev. John Seelman officiating.Burial will be in the church cemetery.Friends may call after 9:30 a.m. Friday until time of services.Memorials may be given to Salem’s flower fund. Viola appreciated all the loving care that her family in Wisconsin provided for the last eight years since the loss of her beloved Joe. |
