Mary “Mayme” J. (Charles) Englebert, 89, of 921 Pleasant Ridge Rd, Brussels, died peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at Cardinal Ridge Residential Facility.She was born on June 3, 1919 in the town of Union to the late Joseph and Florentine Charles.On May 31, 1937 she married George Englebert at St. Mary of the Snow Catholic Church in Namur.Together Mayme and George farmed her family’s homestead until their retirement in 1972.Mayme was a good seamstress making many of the clothes she wore.After retirement, she spent her leisure time and energy knitting afghans and slippers, crocheting lace doilies and table cloths, making patchwork quilts with fancy stitches and braiding area rugs.She took pride in her handiwork and enjoyed gifting her work to her family.For about 15 years Mayme and George were the caretakers of the church building and grounds and cemetery for St. Mary of the Snow Church.Their love for working in the soil and making all things green and beautiful was also evident by the time and care spent meticulously maintaining the lawn and gardens around their home.Mayme’s life was centered around George, her beloved husband of 68 years, who preceded her in death on November 7, 2005.The time spent with her five children and their families brought her much joy and comfort. Survivors include her five children:Ronald and Patricia Englebert, Luxemburg, Donald and Mary Ann Englebert, Gerald and Janice Englebert, Janice and Leonard Zittlow, and David and Dixie Englebert, all of Brussels; grandchildren:Diane (Dennis) Derenne, Robert Kipp, Laurie Dellise, Mark (Michelle) Englebert, Kim (Tony) Kipp, Dennis (Kim) Englebert, Steven (Lori) Englebert, Chistine (Mark) Rockendorf, Veronica (William) Herlache, Kevin Englebert, Angela (Christopher) Polk, Kay Englebert, James (Dawn) Englebert, John (Karen) Englebert, Joseph (Jackie) Englebert, Jerome (Tara) Englebert, Lisa (Tim) O’Halloran, Michael (Susan) Zittlow, Sara (Michael) Kelleher, Nicole (Steven) Korb, Rebecca (Jamie) Charles, and Jennifer (Mark) Jandrin; 70 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.She is further survived by two step-sisters:Gladys Ettien, Green Bay, and Viola (Harvey) Bouche, Casco, her four sisters-in-law:Dorothy Challe, Alvina Matzke, Bertine (Richard) Mertens and Eunice (Orville) Gauger and a special cousin, Arlene Deprey. In addition to her husband and parents, Mayme was preceded in death by her infant sister (1917), a brother, John (1936) granddaughters:Brenda Kipp (2005) and Deborah Englebert (1973); a great-granddaughter Elizabeth Rose Englebert (2005); her step-father:Joseph Ferron (1968); step-sister:Mary (Wilfred) Moens; two step-brothers:Raymond (Mathilda) Ferron and Louie (Orpha) Ferron; step-brother-in-law:William Ettien; three sisters-in-law:Ruth Malfroid, Irene and Dolores Englebert; and three brothers-in-law:Eli Malfroid, John Challe and Rueben Matzke. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Cardinal Ridge CBRF in Sturgeon Bay for the care they gave Mayme. Funeral services will be 10:15 AM Sat., May 2, 2009 at Forbes Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay and 11:00 AM at St. Francis and St. Mary's Church in Brussels, with the Rev. Pius Cotter officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Namur. Friends may call from 4-8 PM on Friday May1, 2009 and Saturday at 9:00 AM until 10:15 AM at the Forbes Funeral Home.
