Laura A. Cordier, 87, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at home on February 23, 2010. She was born on October 19, 1922, in Namur, Wisconsin to the late Henry and Virginia (Englebert) Mallien. In 1940 Laura graduated from Brussels High School and was crowned Door County Cherry Blossom Queen in the same year. On June 16, 1943 she married James Cordier at St. Mary of the Snow Church in Namur. Laura was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. For many years, she enjoyed sewing and caring for her flower gardens. Her greatest love was spending time with her six children. If she wasn’t attending kids’ baseball or basketball games, she was playing alongside them in the backyard. In later years, she enjoyed extended trips to Florida, playing cards with her son James, and following her grandson’s baseball games on the radio. She remained a trusted confidant, counselor, and life-long friend to her children. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, James; daughters MJ (Bob Schimmelpfennig) Cordier, Orlando, FL; Lynn (Tom) Lodholz, Berlin, WI; Cynthia (Jerry) Bechard, Bonita Springs, FL; sons, Michael (Mary) Cordier, West Palm Beach, FL; Patrick (Kelly) Cordier, Sturgeon Bay; and James Cordier, Tampa, FL; seven grandchildren, Lori, Sherry, Rebecca, Erik, Andrew, Dakota, and Riley; a twin sister, Emma (Auguste) Hayot, Sturgeon Bay; and many nieces and nephews. Laura was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Esther Mallien, Lucy Lampereur, Martha Louis, and Mary Mallien; sister-in-law, Marion Vanderheiden; brothers-in-law, Louis Rankin, George Lampereur, Clarence Louis, and Roland Vanderheiden; and nieces, Virginia Louis and Mary Lee Vanderheiden. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 1, 2010 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sturgeon Bay with the Rev. Dominic Peluse SCJ officiating. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. Monday at the church until the time of services. A memorial fund has been established in her name. On-line condolences may be made at www.forbesfuneralhome.com
