John Dwyer, 87, of Brussels, passed away at Unity Hospice in Green Bay on February 24, 2010. He was born on February 15, 1923 in New York City to John and Anna (O’Leary) Dwyer Sr. On Aug. 19, 1944 he married Genevieve Dwyer in New York. After high school, Jack, as many people knew him, went to work for a government shipyard in Kearny, New Jersey. He later enlisted and served his country in the U.S. Navy during WW II. When the war was over, Jack went to work full time and attended college in the evenings. He graduated from New York University with a BS degree in mechanical engineering. Jack worked as an engineer for General Foods for many years. During his career, he moved to England to supervise the construction of a coffee plant. He and his wife lived most of their lives in New York and Indianapolis. They retired to Brussels in 1998 to be near family. Jack’s hobbies included beautiful stained glass work, gardening, and wood working. They were members of St. Francis and St. Mary Parish in Brussels. He and his wife enjoyed the friendly people they met at church and in the local community. John’s wife preceded him in death on Aug. 4, 2009. Survivors include 4 children, Nancy (Thomas) Check, Dousman, WI; John Dwyer, Sturgeon Bay; Thomas Dwyer, Brussels; and Kathleen (Randall) Palmer, Pennsylvania; 4 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and 4 sisters. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010 at the Forbes Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay. Burial will be in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Brussels. Memorials may be directed to St. Francis and St. Mary Parish in her name. |
