Hazel Marie (Roble) Krowas, 62, of Sturgeon Bay, was called to her eternal home on Feb. 15, 2010, with her family by her side. She wanted everyone to know that she did not lose her battle with cancer; she just ran out of time. Hazel was born on Dec. 8, 1947 to Norman and Fyrn (Claflin) Roble in the city of Sturgeon Bay. She graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1966 and married the love of her life, Herbert Krowas, on Dec. 31, 1966 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay. They enjoyed 43 years of marriage together and Hazel claimed she lived a “charmed life” with Herb. He was her excellent caregiver during her 10 plus years with cancer, as well as her best friend. Hazel loved her church and pastors at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay. She served on the Altar Guild for many years, when she was in good health. She and Herb were also Youth Counselors 35 years ago. Many of you may remember Hazel from working in retail in Sturgeon Bay; she managed the JC Penny Catalog Store for 10 years and worked at Gold and Silver Creations for 8 enjoyable years. Prior to working at Penny’s, she worked as a secretary for the Door County Health Department and as a sales person for the “Shoe Rack”. Hazel loved working in the public and made friends easily, and always with a smile! Herb survives along with their two sons, John (Nina) Krowas, Boston MA, and Chad (Darcey) Krowas, Appleton. Hazel loved being a grandma to four grandchildren, Harrison Krowas of Boston, MA, and Ciara, Dayton, and Pierce Krowas of Appleton, WI. She is further survived by her mom, Fyrn (Claflin) Roble, Sturgeon Bay; one brother, Daniel (Kim) Roble, Dodgeville; mother-in-law, Dorothy Krowas, Sturgeon Bay; two nephews, Matt and Chris Roble; and many faithful and dear friends of many years. She was preceded in death by her dad, Norman Roble, formerly a police officer in the city of Sturgeon Bay, and her father-in-law, Charles Krowas, Baileys Harbor. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 19, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay with Rev. Darrick Kolterjahn officiating. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., Thursday at the Forbes Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay and after 10 a.m. at the church on Friday until the time of services. Devotions will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home on Thursday. Burial will be at the Baileys Harbor Town Cemetery. All memorials may be given to the St. Peter’s Building Fund, Door CANcer Inc., or Unity Hospice. The one wish and prayer that Hazel had in the days preceding her death was for the angels to take her to heaven, and her loved ones not to be too sad.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Anthony Jaslowski and the oncology nurses at Door County Memorial Cancer Center. Also, hospice workers Ida, Registered Nurse, and Lauren, Social Worker and Unity Chaplin, John, when he asked Hazel what she thought heaven would be like, she said, “just like her back yard except without the weeds!” |
