Ervin "Erv" Napier
 

 
 

    Ervin “Erv”Napier, 86, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away on Oct. 18, 2009 at Whispering Pines in Sturgeon Bay.  He was born on March 23, 1923 in Milwaukee to Helen and Joseph Napieralski.  Erv was a WW II veteran who served in France and Holland.  He was a parachutist in the 101st Airborne Fox Company #506 who jumped during the night at Normandy on D-Day.  While in Holland, Erv worked to keep the bridge to Nijmegen open on the road to nowhere. He was a member of the Disabled Veterans of American and also battled cancer since 1990.  In 1946 Erv married Helge Stobbe; she passed away on Jan. 20, 1966.  He then married Lucille Weckler on June 22, 1968 and she passed away on April 25, 1999.  Erv was an avid bowler and golfer throughout his life.  After retirement from the pattern trade, Erv spent nearly two decades in Homestead and Sebring, Florida.  He returned to Wisconsin in 1996 and spent his final years in the peaceful outskirts of Sturgeon Bay.  The blooming of spring bulbs, and the feeding of migratory birds, squirrels, deer, and other wildlife brought him great joy.  He was also a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks (B.P.O.E.) since January of 1950.  
      Survivors include a daughter, Lori Rene Nichols, Bellingham, Washighton; 2 grandchildren, Matthew and Hope Nichols; a sister-in-law, Muriel (Billie) Napieralski; a niece, Gail; 2 nephews, Paul and Kal; step-daughter, Charmaine and her husband Tony Peterman, Foley, Alabama, and a step-son, Scott Weckler.  He is also survived by a very close friend, Dorothy Strom, who kept one another company in the latter years of their lives.  He was also preceded in death by a brother, Jerome. 
      
Funeral and veteran services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009 at Hainesville Lutheran Church.  Friends may call on Wednesday from 10 AM until the time of services.  Memorials may be directed to the Door County Humane Society.
