Blaine “Boon” Dreutzer, 72, of Sturgeon Bay passed away at home on October 18, 2009 with his family at his side. He was born on June 11, 1937 in Waukegan, IL to Cedric and Hazel (Johnston) Dreutzer. He attended UW Oshkosh and graduated from the University of Green Bay with a BA in Business Communications. Blaine married Margaret “Peggy” Donahue on December 28, 1976 in Green Bay. He served his country in the U. S. Army for a number of years. Blaine was always an entrepreneur and was involved in a variety of business ventures throughout his life. He owned an appliance store, was a salesman for AAA Auto Insurance, and operated cherry and apple orchards in Sturgeon Bay. He also worked for Massey Ferguson in Kewaunee and was the general manager for the Northern Glove and Mitten Company in Green Bay. In 1975, Boon and Peggy started a real estate company in Sturgeon Bay, Shore side Realty, which became ERA Realty in 1980. They owned and operated the business until they turned it over to their son in 1994. Blaine was very active in the community and belonged to a number of organizations, including the Door County Sail and Power Squadron, Door County Master Gardners Association, Sturgeon Bay Optimists, Door County Maritime Museum, Republican Party of Door County, and the Door County Realtor’s Association. He was a past member of the Sturgeon Bay Yacht Club, and the Sturgeon Bay Jaycees. Blaine enjoyed boating and also loved to garden. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Randy (Mary), Paul (Mary Ellen), and Allen; three granddaughters, Amy (Blake), Ashley and Nicole; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and many friends. Blaine was preceded in death by his parents, and his first wife Joan. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 PM Thursday October 22, 2009 at the Forbes Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until time of services. Memorials may be made out to the Door County Sail and Power Squadron and Door County Maritime Museum. |
