Betty Jane Destree

 
 

 

 
 

   Betty Jane Destree, 83, a life long resident of Door County, passed away at Cardinal Ridge on April 23, 2009 from the effects of Progressive Supra Nuclear Palsy. She was born August 11, 1925 in Jacksonport to Frank and Neva (DeJardin) Brauer. On April 8, 1942 she married Vernon Destree and he preceded her in death October 4, 2005. Betty was an avid woodcarver having won many awards for her carvings. She also painted in oils, watercolors, pen and ink and whatever art medium she could explore. Betty’s sons in law will attest to her skills in the kitchen, particularly her pickled products which garnered many awards at the Door County Fair. She belonged to the Christian Mothers and the National Wood Carvers Museum. Betty donated carvings to Duck’s Unlimited for fourteen years.She worked at Milwaukee Shoe Factory for eight years. Betty also baked bread at Southern Door Schools for 8 years and worked at the Door County Court House with her husband as night custodian for 13 years until her retirement.
    
She passed on her creativity to her four daughters, Lee Ann (Roger) LeRoy, Green Bay; Sandra (James) DuBois, Sturgeon Bay; Cheryl (Sydney) LaViolette, Porterfield; Gayla (Allan) Motquin, Sturgeon Bay; 21 grandchildren , 29 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren; two sisters, June (Harold) Plagens, Florida; Joyce Weckler, Sturgeon Bay; a sister in law, Gladys Jenquin, Green Bay; brother in law, Stanley (Delores) LaViolette, Sturgeon Bay; She was preceded in death by a grandson, Joseph DuBois; one sister, Jean LaViolette; sisters in law, Vivian DeJardin, Mary, Myrtleand Lucy Destree; seven brothers in law, Merton, Gordon and Alvin Destree, Norman Jenquin, George DeJardin, Hilton Dauost and John Weckler.
    
Funeral Services will be 10:15 a.m. Monday, April 27, 2009 at Forbes Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay and 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis and St. Mary Church in Brussels with Rev. Pius Cotter officiating. Entombment in the Shrine of Good Shepherd Mausoleum, Green Bay.  Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the Forbes Funeral Home and Monday morning until time of services. A prayer service will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Sunday.
